Toni Olsen

Toni obtained her BSc in Environmental and Geographical Sciences in 2014 at the University of Cape Town. She went on to study her Honours in Biological Sciences at UCT and graduated in 2015. Toni enrolled in the DST-NRF internship program and joined the Freshwater Research Centre as an intern in April this year (2016). Since the beginning of her internship she has been involved in many of the projects that members of the FRC are running. She has joined on various field trips as a field assistant, including a field trip to the Breede River to conduct a fish survey of the catchment. Toni is also involved in data capturing, data analysis, assisting in the development of projects as well as general administration work around the office. The internship lasts for a year, but Toni has shown an interest to enrol in a MSc program at the University of Cape Town in Climate Change Mitigation and Sustainable Development at the beginning of next year. Prior to this internship experience, Toni had limited exposure to freshwater science, but this experience has shown to be valuable for both Toni and the FRC to educate our young natural scientists on freshwater science and spark an interest to include freshwater sciences in their future career path.
